The brief History of Naktala High SchoolCelebration of Golden Jubilee anniversary of school begun on 16th January, 2000, in a fine Sunday morning with highly disciplined and jolly march-pass. Naktala High School was established on 16th january, 1951. Since the very first day of her birth, the school started transiting hope among the local people that Naktala High School would come out with flying colours in the days to come. And now Naktala High School feels proud that she has been able to fulfil their hope, thanks to those who directly or indirectly have been getting themselves involved with the well-being of the School. This article aims at inspiring our new generations by providing well-furnished information about the past, so that they can take up the glory and fame which is associated with Naktala High School.
Our country got independence on 15th August,1947 and was divided into two. Independent nation Pakistan was born. At the time of birth, thousands of people were dead and countless families went refugee due to political blindness of our so-called leaders. Some went to Goverment havel and some started living in vacant areas, togetherly. At that time,Naktala colony no 1 was formed. Despite constant struggle for existence, the refugee families did not lose heart. They still had dreams in mind. Naktala High School is an offspring of such dedicated dream.
The first initiative for the foundation of Naktala High School was taken in 1950 in an auspicious occasion and a monitoring committee was also founded. The attendees, who have now expired, were D.K. Das, Kali Ranjan Chatterjee, Abani Dutta, Amalendu Chowdhury, Upen Basu, Biman Sen, well known freedom fighter sunirmal Basu and his sister Anjali Sen and among livings were Hon. Jyotirmoy Bandopadhyay, Mrinal Kanti Ghosh Roy, Dr. Debaprasad Chakraborty and others. D.K.Das was the President of the committee and Sudhir Mohan Bandopadhyay was the vice-president. Sunirmol Sen was selected the Secretary. The first task of the committee was to find out space. Mainly Sunirmol Sen, Sudhir Mohan Bandopadhyay and Kanupriya ran after Refugee officer and arranged a plot in colony no 1 for the school . The plot was then filled with water and trees.
The education process was actually started on 16th January, 1951 with ceremonial introduction. Atleast one class was taken in every morning in the rooms of nearby houses. The classes were mainly conducted in the houses of Sri Narendranath Dey, Chitta Banerjee, Late Shiba Prasad Chatterjee and Late Atul Halder. Late Sri Manmohan Bandopadhyay was appointed as Headmaster. He was Ex-Headmaster of Bajrayogini High School of Dhaka District. Apart from them, Late Nishikanta Mukherjee and Late Jadunath Bhattacharya joined this school as Teacher. Later, Jadunath Bhattacharya was appointed as clerk permanently. In the first year, a total number of 60 students, including 20 in class V, 21 in class VI, 12 in class VII and 7 in class VIII, were admitted in this school. The members of managing committee and others went from house to house and collected students. Most interestingly, the students of our neighbor Khanpur High School, got admitted into our school. It was decided that all the families of Naktala High should pay a subscription of Rupees one. The members of Managing committee and the others mentioned earlier, collected this subscription. The funds were also encriched by cultural progams organized. Hearty efforts by Kanupriya Sen led Late businessman Heeralal Paul to donate 10/12 bundles of new corugated tins. A long shade was made of these tins and the funds collected by the sale of pillers of wood. Later on, after four/five months, we felt the need of more money which inspired us to organize two plays, 'Kalindi' and 'Kedarnath'.
The necessity of more money inspired us to organize two plays, 'Kalindi' and 'Kedarnath'. These two stage-shows were programmed in 1952. We earned a sum of Rs.1500/- from these two stage-shows. The artists of the aforesaid plays did not receive their fees. We cannot forget their contibutions any way.
Naktala High School got affiliation from 01.01.1953. In the year 1954, the first batch comprising 17 students had sit for school final examination.
The school started to receive Government grants from 1954. In 1954, the first post-affiliation, managing committee was elected. Honourable minister of West Bengal, Late Dr. Jeevan Ratan Dhar was elected as President Sudhir Mohan Bandopadhyay was elected as vice-president and late ChandraMohan Saha was elected the Secretary.
Sri Subhash Chandra Bhattacharya was the first candidate in this post-affiliated school, to have stood first and brought fame and glory to school as well as the locality. Consequently the number of students increased.
In December 1957, the Headmaster Sri Nibaran Chandra Roy resigned.
The school got Government permission to open three streams, Humanities, Science and Commerce in H.S. level, since 01.04.1958.
In July 1959, Sri Aswini Kumar Roy was appointed as Headmaster.
Our student Sri TaraShankar Nag stood seventh in H.S. Examination. He not only brought fame to our school, but also solidify the foundation put by Sri Subhash Chandra Bhattacharya.
The Government appointed the then Adhyaksha of Netaji Nagar Collage Sri Pijush Dasgupta as President and Head Master and created a virtual Managing Committee.
Reverend Teacher and most beloved among the students, Sri Harinath Chakraborty, who was appointed as Teacher-in-charge, retired from service on 01.01.71. On 03.02.71 the vivid and dear of all of us, colleague, Late Swadesh Kumar Chakraborty was appointed as The Assistant Head Master of the school.
At the end of 1971, a statewise inauspicious shadow gripped onto the school. Day after the formation of the Government, the student, colleague and favourite and most honoured teacher in this area, Sri Pranab Kumar Sen and domicile of Naktala and Ex-student of this school and teacher Sri Shankar Chakraborty, had been restricted to enter into this school. However, later on they, along with some others, were reappointed as Assistant Teacher in this school.
Sri Nandadulal Goswami was reappointed as Head Master on 24.12.77. He was among the successful Head Masters in this school. He has given a shape to this school. We remember, immediately after his reappointment the then Vice-Inspector Srimati Eela Dutta, during the school visit session, brought the tendency of students, escaping away from school, to his kind attention. Nandababu committed her that he would completly deactivate such practice of students and he further invited her to revisit the shool. The people of Naktala, the guardian union and colleagues of this school still remembers that the commitment given by Sri Nandababu was not in vain. Though he has retired from service in the mid of 1990, the voidness created by him still reverberates his unforgettable traces in this school.
Sri Hrishikesh Das was elected the President and Professor Jyoti Prasad Bandopadhyay was elected the Secretary after winning the election with great margin in 1979.
Sri Binay Kumar Sarkar was appointed as the Head Master on 23rd March, 1993. The Managing Committee tried twice to appoint a Headmaster but they failed to select any suitable candidate. In this situation he was given the charge of Headmastership for this school. He was attached with this school since the last week of July, 1963. The school is ever-indebted for his untired efforts toward the betterment of this school from all respects. It is impossible to express his contribution to this school in words only.
On 01.02.1999, the Assistant Head Master Sri Dilip Kumar Chatterjee took retirement. Sri Dilip Kumar Chatterjee was the passout student of the first year, of this school. He achieved the respect and natural love from students,teachers,non-teachers and the surrounding people of this area. He is most successful as a teacher. He is always remebered for his contribution towards Sports and games and overall development of this school.
